چکیده

We show that thermal effects play a relevant role in the determination of the electron-phonon couplings based on the intensity of the phonon-shakeup peaks in photoemission spectra. In particular, we re-consider the determination of the electron-phonon couplings of fullerene based on a fit of the photoemission spectrum of C−60 in gas phase (1). We show that taking thermal effects into account reduces the obtained couplings by approximately 10%.

Electron-phonon coupling in crystalline pentacene films.

The electron-phonon (e-p) interaction in pentacene (Pn) films grown on Bi(001) was investigated using photoemission spectroscopy. The spectra reveal thermal broadening from which we determine an e-p mass enhancement factor of lambda=0.36+/-0.05 and an effective Einstein energy of omega{E}=11+/-4 meV. From omega{E} it is inferred that dominant contributions to the e-p effects observed in angle-r...

Non-thermal hot electrons ultrafastly generating hot optical phonons in graphite

Investigation of the non-equilibrium dynamics after an impulsive impact provides insights into couplings among various excitations. A two-temperature model (TTM) is often a starting point to understand the coupled dynamics of electrons and lattice vibrations: the optical pulse primarily raises the electronic temperature T(el) while leaving the lattice temperature T(l) low; subsequently the hot ...

Electron–phonon coupling is large for localized states

From density-functional calculations, we show that localized states stemming from defects or topological disorder exhibit an anomalously large electron–phonon coupling. We provide a simple analysis to explain the observation and perform a detailed study on an interesting system: amorphous silicon. We compute firstprinciples deformation potentials (by computing the sensitivity of specific electr...

Polaronic behavior of undoped high-T(c) cuprate superconductors from angle-resolved photoemission spectra.

We present angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) data on undoped La2CuO4, indicating polaronic coupling between bosons and charge carriers. Using a shell model, we calculate the electron-phonon coupling and find that it is strong enough to give self-trapped polarons. We develop an efficient method for calculating ARPES spectra in undoped systems. Using the calculated couplings, we f...

2 9 Ju n 20 01 Electron – vibration coupling constants in positively charged fullerene

Recent experiments have shown that C60 can be positively field-doped. In that state, fullerene exhibits a higher resistivity and a higher superconducting temperature than the corresponding negatively doped state. A strong intramolecular hole-phonon coupling, connected with the Jahn-Teller effect of the isolated positive ion, is expected to be important for both properties, but the actual coupli...
